Umicore Materials Technology PhD Award
Objective
On the initiative of Umicore, the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and the Fund for Scientific Research-FNRS (F.R.S.-FNRS) will grant the Umicore Materials Technology PhD Award in recognition of an original contribution in one of the following fields:
- Recycling / resources scarcity (related to metals)
- Materials for catalysis
- Materials for batteries
Features
This Award amounts to 10.000 € and will be granted in recognition of original and excellent scientific PhD research in the fields listed above.
Profile & conditions
The award will be granted to a researcher having obtained his/her PhD between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016 from a recognized university (worldwide).
The Award will be granted on the basis of the recommendations of an independent Jury of scientific experts, appointed by the F.R.S.-FNRS and the FWO, and following an evaluation procedure in two stages. The first stage consists of a Jury review of all applications, in which the highest-ranked candidates will be shortlisted.
In a second stage, shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their research (through videoconference interview) to a joint evaluation committee of the scientific Jury and representative members of Umicore R&D staff. From this second stage of the evaluation the final laureate will eventually be chosen.
Procedure
Submit your application using the appropriate form (below) by July 3, 2017 to prix@frs-fnrs.be, with the following additional documents:
- an executive summary emphasizing the originality and relevance for the field of your research (max. 5 pages)
- a summary in layman's terms (max. 1/2 page);
- an electronic version of your PhD thesis (pdf);
- a curriculum vitae.
All documents should be in English (except the PhD itself if not written in English).
