Dr. Annette Caenen and Dr. Jürgen Duchenne were awarded last December for their research in cardiac imaging. They won first and second place respectively in the Young Investigator Award competition of the EuroEcho 2021 congress.

This competition is organized annually by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), the largest scientific association devoted to cardiovascular imaging worldwide.

The competition honours the 4 most promising young European researchers, after a selection from 1000+ participants. Dr. Duchenne has already received the Young Investigator Award twice before – as the only participant ever – in 2016 and 2019.

Dr. Caenen and Dr. Duchenne are both postdoctoral researchers at the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences of KU Leuven, financed by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). Dr. Caenen is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology at Ghent University. In their research they hope to improve the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure patients, by means of imaging.
