Once every year, some dozens of Nobel Laureates convene at Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: undergraduates, PhD students, and post-doc researchers from all over the world. The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings foster the exchange among scientists of different generations, cultures, and disciplines. The commitment of Nobel Laureates to foster the exchange among scientists has been the mainstay of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings ever since their beginnings in 1951.

For the interdisciplinary Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting to be held from 28 June – 3 July 2020, Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, Physics and Physiology or Medicine will be invited. About 400 highly-talented young scientists will be the audience for their lectures, for panel discussions and for small-size discussion sessions.

These young participants will be recruited worldwide among (1) undergraduate students, (2) master and doctoral students and (3) young postdoctoral scientists from the above-mentioned fields and closely related disciplines.

As of 2015 the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) has become an academic partner of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and can nominate up to 4 candidates each year. The nominees will be subject to an additional selection process by the Lindau Council’s Reviews Panel for final selection to the 2020 meeting.

For nominees who will be admitted to the Meeting, FWO pays the travel costs and a lump sum of €2.500, covering (among other) the stay at Lindau and a share in the total cost of participation; the remainder of the cost will be paid for by the Lindau foundation itself.

Candidates should send an application to interprog@fwo.be, in English, consisting of a full CV (incl. publication list), a letter of motivation and a letter of recommendation by their supervisor or scientific advisor (approximately one A4 page long). Deadline for the applications is Monday, 30 September 2019. As academic partner of Lindau, FWO will select up to 4 nominees who will then submit an official application to Lindau itself, where a Review Panel appointed by the Lindau Council will make the final selection.
