Title of the project: The impact of the stellar multiplicity on the pre-supernova evolution of massive stars
From the jury report:
Dr. Sana has been able to establish himself as an important player in this field. He participates in some of the most important developments in the field. It appears that he has very good prospects to establish a research group that can contribute significantly to an interesting – and currently “hot” – astrophysics research field.
He has led several very interesting and innovative observing programmes making use of new telescope facilities. He also participated in several surveys of massive stars in nearby galaxies. Large collaborations nowadays often lead to many publications and Hugues Sana’s publication record shows that he co-authored 70 refereed publications in the past 5 years.
He has extensive and excellent international collaborations. The balance of his leadership in first-authored papers to those as co-author with collaborators is normal for top scientists working on multiple collaborations. He is a leader of the highest caliber.
