New postdoc fellowships awarded

The FWO Board of Trustees awarded 281 new postdoc fellowships of which 211 are junior fellowships and 70 senior. VITO and Meise Botanic Garden each fund one additional postdoctoral fellowship. With these fellowships, the FWO wants to support researchers in developing an independent, international research career. They will receive funding for three years.

There were 1308 applications for the junior fellowships and 439 for the senior fellowships. As a result, the success rate this year fell to 16.1% (-1.3%) for junior postdocs and 15.9% (-7.8%) for senior postdocs.

Support from the Suzanne Duchesne Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, has made it possible to make an additional €90,000 of special bench fees available to selected postdoc researchers in oncology and as a result of that, two postdocs from the Med4 panel have received a special bench fee.

The start date for the awarded postdoc fellowships is 1 October or 1 November 2025.
