All about support programmes
Each year, numerous Nobel Laureates convene in Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists. Since the first meeting in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have fostered the exchange among outstanding scientists of different generations, cultures, and disciplines.
For the 76th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, which will take place from 27 June to 2 July 2027, Nobel Laureates in Physiology and Medicine will be invited. About 600 exceptionally talented young scientists will take part in a unique week dedicated to scientific exchange, inspiration, and networking through lectures, panel discussions, and small-size discussion sessions. These young participants are selected from among undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, as well as early-career postdoctoral researchers from around the world.
Since 2015, the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) has become an Academic Partner of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. As a partner, the FWO is able to nominate a limited number of outstanding young researchers each year. For the 76th Lindau Meeting on Physiology/Medicine, the FWO may nominate up to five candidates. Following the nomination by the FWO, candidates will undergo an international selection process conducted by the Lindau Council’s Review Panel, which will determine the final participants of the 2027 meeting.
For each selected nominee, the FWO covers the travel costs (round trip) and a lump sum of €2.500, covering (among other things) the accommodation in Lindau and (part of) the total cost of participation. The remaining costs are covered by the Lindau Foundation and additional third-party funding sources.
Candidates must submit an application in English to interprog@fwo.be, no later than Tuesday 15 September 2026. The file should be compiled into a single PDF document and must include:
a full CV, including a publication list (maximum 2 pages);
a motivation letter (maximum 1 page);
two recommendation letters from supervisors, scientific advisors and/or internationally renowned scientists, who know the candidate well. At least one of these letters must be written by a supervisor affiliated with a Flemish university (maximum 1 page each).
