Announcement of results

Objective

The Academia Belgica, Centre for History, Arts and Sciences in Rome, awards research grants each year for a one- to three-month stay in Rome with the support of the Scientific Research Fund (FWO) and the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

Terms and conditions

  • be officially affiliated to a Belgian university, college of higher education or scientific institution;
  • hold a second or third cycle degree (master, doctorate);
  • have obtained outstanding results;
  • present a research project that justifies a stay in Rome for the requested period.

Priority will be given to researchers working in the fields of historical sciences, art history, architectural history and literature.

Characteristics

The fellowships consist of:

  • For those researchers who continue to receive a salary, allowance or grant during their stay:
    • Free accommodation at the Academia Belgica in a private room with a bathroom, during the fellowship period.
  • For researchers who do not receive a salary, allowance or grant during their stay:
    • Free accommodation at the Academia Belgica in a private room with a bathroom, during the fellowship period;
    • an expense allowance of €700 per month during the fellowship period;
    • a flat rate of €180 for travel expenses Belgium-Rome/Rome-Belgium;

The fellowships do not cover individual or professional insurance. It is important that fellows check with their institution about what to do about insurance.

Application procedure

The application file consists of:

  • The completed application
  • A written recommendation from a professor or senior lecturer affiliated to a Belgian university or college of higher education.
