Research grants Academiae Belgicae

Academia Belgica can award two postdoctoral research fellowships each year for a six-month stay at the Academia Belgica in Rome, thanks to the Scientific Research Fund (FWO) and the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS).

• be officially affiliated to a Flemish or French-speaking university in Belgium;
• hold a third-cycle diploma (PhD), obtained no more than 12 years ago at the time of application;
• the research stay starts no later than 1 May of the academic year for which the application was submitted;
• have obtained outstanding results;
• present an original research project that justifies a stay in Rome for the requested period.

Priority will be given to researchers working in the fields of historical sciences, art history, architectural history and literature.

It is not possible to leave the start of the scholarship nor to shorten the duration of the research stay. The research stay must be completed before the end of the civil year for which the grant was awarded.

The fellowships consist of

• free accommodation at the Academia Belgica in a private room with bathroom and shower, during the requested period.
• an expense allowance of €750 per month during the requested period;
• a flat rate of €180 for travel expenses Belgium-Rome/Rome-Belgium;

The fellowships do not cover individual or professional insurance. It is important that fellows check with their institution what to do regarding insurance.

The form and the letter of recommendation must be sent by 20 September 2024 at the latest to segreteria@academiabelgica.it. The results are announced mid November.
