Advice, selection, and evaluation criteria Grant for participation in a conference abroad

Advice

  • You attach the official proof of acceptance of your presentation (poster or oral communication).
  • Your application is submitted to the International Collaboration Committee (CIWC) that will decide on its approval or not.

Selection

  • Groundbreaking content (quality abstract, results, methodology, …) of the contribution to the conference. Only the author who presents the contribution at the conference can obtain a grant.
  • Scientific performance of the applicant to date, taking into account the specificity of the area and his/her age, as well as the added value of the conference stay abroad.
  • Quality of the conference (standing, theme, added value, …) and conference type: international, local, occasional, or conference with a certain prestige, e.g. Gordon, IEEE, ESF, and SPIE.
  • If a choice has to be made: preference for junior researchers to the extent that they already have at least one peer-reviewed publication for a conference in Europe. For a conference outside Europe, you should preferably already have three or more accepted peer-reviewed publications.
  • An official conference role (chairman, session leader, …) does not legitimize an application for a grant. There should always be an active scientific participation.

Evaluation

Beneficiaries must send a concise report on their participation in the scientific conference to the FWO within three months of their return to Belgium.
