VITO-FWO fellowships

VITO is an independent Flemish research organisation in the area of cleantech and sustainable development VITO is active in several national and international research programs, and is collaborating with research groups at most Flemish universities. VITO is aiming at further strengthening this collaboration with Flemish universities, with focus on the VITO core themes as (sustainable) energy, materials, chemistry, health and land use.

VITO is therefore committing itself to the yearly financing of a number of fellowships for young promising researchers. It concerns doctoral fellowships fundamental and/or strategic basic research and/or postdoctoral (junior/senior) fellowships. The number of available fellowships will be decided upon each year, starting from the fellowship calls for mandates starting in 2023.

This ambition is established in a collaboration protocol between the FWO and VITO, thus creating the doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships "VITO - FWO". These fellowships, including bench fee, are financed by VITO. The fellowships fit in the regular doctoral and postdoctoral programs of the FWO, and applications are submitted and evaluated in the concerned calls for proposals.

Only regular FWO call fellowship applications at which VITO has agreed to act as an additional host institute, and that were approved by FWO but could not be financed, are eligible for a fellowship "VITO - FWO".

Through an agreement/contract between the fellow and the FWO, these fellowships are subject to the FWO regulations for doctoral resp. postdoctoral fellowships. VITO draws up an collaboration agreement with the main host institute involved.
